What not to do when Missouri Goose hunting

Published Categorized as Journal
  • Missouri goose hunting   is a challenging task. A goose hunter should know the right season to start hunting and how to prepare and step up for the hunt. Often hunters make these mistakes and end up returning home empty handed. Some of these common mistakes and their remedies are worth mentioning.11

The hunting party picks the wrong fields to set up decoys. This can be remedied by keeping two things in mind. Firstly, the party needs to do a prior scouting job and secondly, they need to know the kind of grain the geese eat so that they can find those fields. Once the field is picked the nest mistake often done is in the setting up of decoys. The decoys should be able to fool the geese by having some movement in them. Their placement should be proper so as to give space to the bird to land. Placement is a science and should be learnt properly by the Missouri goose hunter. Another horrible mistake often committed is the lack of knowledge of the wind. The geese have to take off and land against the wind. The decoy placement and the spot of concealment have to be in relation to the direction in which the wind is blowing.

The worst mistake that a hunter can commit is the act of his concealment. Proper concealment is required when Missouri goose hunting. The time to set up should be early and any delay can be disastrous. While the goose are looking at the decoy the rest of the scenery should be absolutely motionless. Having a dog at geese hunting proves to be a big loss. One should be very careful when coming out of the hunting spot as there can be other geese around that might get scared and fly away. And the last mistake is lack of shooting practise and coordination. Once these mistakes are taken care of hunting geese will be an exiting experience.
